It hard sometimes to maintain the motivation to sustain a regular exercise routine. The key is finding what works for you and something that is enjoyable at the same time. If the routine is too difficult to achieve you will soon lose interest and find excuses of not to exercise. Following these simple tips will help you not only start an exercise routine but sustain it so you form a habit.

Get Motivated, Stay Motivated

Meet someone to train with or sign up for a course of classes. This will give you a sense of commitment of not letting the other person down or the fact you have a paid for the 6 week course of classes as your sign of commitment to regular exercise.

Don’t put away your Exercise Gear

If exercising at home then make sure your equipment always in view This will subconsciously stick in your mind and remind you need to do your workout. Make sure you have an allocated space for your workouts as well.

Turn your commute into a workout

If you live within reasonable distance of work there’s no reason why you cant cycle or run there. This works well as it makes exercise seem more time effective so you don’t have to find time the rest of the day.

Invest in more clothes

This seems might seem fairly insignificant but actually its actually a great way of avoiding the excuse that you haven’t got any clean workout gear. Make sure you have the right clothing also so you feel the part when exercising and reinforces your identity as an exerciser.

Log your workouts online

This is a great way of accountability that you’ve done your workout and the progress your making. Also if your friends are on the same fitness app you may often get comments of encouragement which helps keep you to stay motivated.

Involve your causes

A charitable cause which is based on raising money through exercise is always a good incentive. Choose something you are passionate about which will mean your more likely to stick to the goal.

Make friends at a regular class

This is a great way of accountability again as using each other to keep regular attendance whilst getting a social fix at the same time. A good sign that a class is going to be sociable is when the instructor knows everyones name.

Create an exercise contest

Use a specific goal as a challenge between friends to add that competitive edge to your fitness goals. This is a great way to push each other to reach your goals faster, try changing your challenge every 6-8 weeks to keep you on your toes.
