Find it hard to keep up your workouts in those winter months?? Staying motivated this winter requires one thing only and that’s mindset. Its far to easy to rely on comfort food to make us feel better rather than remaining focused on your goals.

Try these top tips to keep you on track with your workouts.

Picture it

Do you remember how fit and toned you looked last summer?
One of the best ways to stay motivated to exercise in winter is to keep a photo handy of yourself from a time when you were your most fit… some people go the other way, and keep a photo of themselves when they were overweight, so think about which photo might inspire you more, and keep it handy to keep you motivated!

Plan a Holiday

If you plan to stay home during your mid-winter break, you may want to rethink those plans, for obvious reasons (sun v cold weather) It’s important to note that if you have a beach vacation planned, you’ll be more likely to stay in shape all winter long. What better way to stay motivated to exercise in the winter with thought of a beach holiday planned! This will give you the focus to get into that swimsuit shows off your new body shape changes!

Set a Goal

Think of a goal which is realistic to achieve short term say 8 weeks. Maybe even post a picture of an item of clothing you really want to wear and look good in on the fridge.This will give you that constant reminder every time you open the fridge.

Focus on the Benefits

Its not easy to get out of bed in those cold winter months when its cold and dark outside. Writing a list of the benefits of exercise and how it makes your feel or what you get from it should remind you why it should be priority. At the end of the day you want to be able to manage your stress levels and have an abundance of energy rather than sitting at your desk and feel like falling asleep. Again stick this on your fridge and read it regularly.

Get a Trainer

This will give you that added motivation and winter is a great time to invest in one. Not only does it give you that accountability but pushes you harder than you can yourself. If this is too expensive however just join in a fitness class with like minded people to keep your motivation from dwindling.

Reward Yourself

When you reach your goal, reward yourself. Not in food, but maybe a new outfit to celebrate your leaner look. There’s nothing like working towards a goal and achieving it to say well done me.

Post your workout

This can work really well and one of the best ways to stay motivated to exercise in winter is to post updates about your work outs. By posting updates you can involve your friends who are also workout fanatics to help you stay motivated. If you miss a couple of days, they’re right there, asking where you, what you’ve been doing, hows your workouts going for example.

Calculate your calories

Do you have any idea how many calories are in all of your favorite holiday foods?
If not, find out, because knowing how many calories you’re consuming during the holidays is another great way to stay motivated to exercise in winter.
